Above is a picture of the Driver's "Vibra-Kushion" footpegs by
Custom Chrome (part #18-962). They are a little larger than the stock pegs, and look sharp. Since they are made for
a Harley, the strike and pivot dimensions are somewhat different than that of the Vulcan. I bored the
peg's pivot's to 1/2", match bored the frame mounted clevis to 1/2", and mounted the pegs on
Stainless Steel bolts. To correct for the difference in the striker dimension, I drilled into the plate
where the clevis is mounted, and installed stainless steel socket head bolts. Then, using the Dremel
tool and grinding wheel, I "fine-tuned" the thickness of the head of the socket head screw until the
peg rested at the desired height.

Here is a picture of the Passenger's "Vibra-Kushion"
pegs by
Custom Chrome (part #18-960). They, too, are a little larger than the stock pegs. Since they are also made for
a Harley, the strike and pivot dimensions are different than that of the Vulcan (as in the installation
outlined above). I bored the
clevis diameter to match that of the VibraPeg's pivots, and mounted the pegs on
Chromed Steel bolts from the local custom shop. To correct for the difference in the striker
dimension, I drilled into the rear of the pivot (opposite the method used for the driver's pegs),
and installed stainless steel socket head bolts. Then, using the Dremel
tool and grinding wheel, I "fine-tuned" the thickness of the head of the socket head screw until the
peg rested at the desired height. My wife noticed an immediate improvement in her comfort, as the
passenger peg is noticably larger in diameter than the stock.
Since this original writing in 1998, several companies
are producing similar pegs that are a direct bolt-on for your Vulcan. You can find several styles
at Scootworks on their
Footpegs and Covers page.
