American Eagle Mudflap

This is a picture of my American Eagle mudflap. They make 2 different sizes of them, and this is the "WIDE" model. This one has studs and conchos. These mud flaps are constructed of a heavy leather stitched to a thick backing material. Since the total thickness is 3/8", it is not very flexible. After finding dents in nearly every oil filter I've pulled off of the Frog, I decided it was time for one of these babies!

Above is a picture while I was installing the flap. To install it, I cut a template from poster paper and marked the location of the first pair of studs. Then, I wrapped it around the bottom of the fender and marked the two holes. I drilled 1/8" holes in the fender at the marks. I bolted the flap in place with stainless steel (from the boat shop) allen head cap screws, using 3/8" dia flat washers on each side and nylock nuts to hold it in place. Lastly, I drilled one additional hole dead center, between the two mounting bolts I had just installed, and secured it in the same manner. This was to make sure the flap was pulled up and conformed to the shape of the fender nicely.

The whole installation took about 1/2 hour, tops. Some VROC members mentioned that they had an easier time installing it when they first removed the fender. Boy, that's a tough flap!
