Iron Eagles Discussion Group

If you live in or around Wake / Johnston / Nash or surrounding counties and are a member of (or interested in becoming a member of) the Iron Eagles Motorcycle Club, there is a localized email based discussion group just for you! We talk about NC riding weather, local runs, club events and activities, and just plain BS.

[bullet] The Iron-Eagles discussion lists have mail archives of all the traffic on the lists. These can be accessed with a web browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer. This could be helpful if you're looking for a missed note, or maybe at another terminal somewhere (public library, work, friend's house, etc) and want to check in to see what's going on. There is also an archive storing every digest of every message ever sent on the Iron-Eagles lists.

  • There are two Iron Eagles discussion groups. The [Iron Eagles] discussion list is available to members/club officers. Open to the general IE membership for fun stuff, daily BS, ride planning, etc., one will find lots of good fun and routine chatter on that list. The other list, [95], is available to officers of the Iron Eagles to conduct club business and provide a forum for Officers to discuss items relevant to the operation of the Iron Eagles Club. Both of thes lists mentioned within this paragraph are "closed" to the public, and can only be viewed/posted to by the IE membership.

    Info For Iron Eagles Members...

    Once you're a member of the Iron Eagles, you'll receive posting privileges for the [Iron Eagles] discussion group, allowing you to interact with the general membership. If you're a member, click on the links below to subscribe to the list. If you have an email account with limited space, no email at home and have to check from the library or work, or are limited in internet access time, be sure to read the section below about "Email Bog".

    Iron Eagles MEMBERS may click HERE to send a subscription note to the [Iron Eagles] server. No message is necessary, just select "SEND" once the email automatically opens, and the rest will be handled by the server administrator. If you have a problem doing this, drop me an email at: webmaster@iron-eagles.org, and I'll set it up for you.

    One note: the subscription process is handled manually by the IE Moderators. The purpose of this is to keep the club discussion groups functioning as _club_ forums and to limit all traffic to Iron Eagles members, only.

    Another Alternative to 'Email Bog'

    I've enabled another method to help control the amount of email one may receive, if they should have an email account with limited space, no email at home and have to check from the library or work, or are limited in internet access time. This feature is called 'DIGEST MODE'. I'll explain...

    [Digest Version]

    The "DIGEST" format is really quite simple. The DIGEST format takes every day's email, rolls it into a single email, and sent it to you at once, rather than a bunch of individual emails. Personally, I prefer individual emails so I can easily see the subject and reply to them that way, but lots of people like the digest version for it's compactness. If you want to be set up on the digest version, drop me a note and I can make the change. You can also change to either normal or digest versions yourself by doing this:

    • Iron Eagles MEMBERS may click HERE to send a digest request note to the Iron Eagles server. This will set your email delivery to the DIGEST MODE. No message is necessary, just select "SEND" once the email automatically opens, and the rest will be handled by the server administrator. If you have a problem doing this, drop me an email at: webmaster@iron-eagles.org, and I'll set it up for you. This is very easy to do, and can be returned to "Normal" as explained in the following paragraph. If you're curious about this mode, just give it a try and see if you like it. If not, come back and click the link in the following paragraph to return to "Normal" delivery.

    • Iron Eagles MEMBERS may click HERE to send a normal-mode request note to the Iron Eagles server. This will set your email delivery back to the individual email version. No message is necessary, just select "SEND" once the email automatically opens, and the rest will be handled by the server administrator. If you have a problem doing this, drop me an email at: webmaster@iron-eagles.org, and I'll set it up for you.

    [TIPS for using the Digest Version]

  • 1)- When replying to a digest message, be sure to take a look at the subject line. It'll usually state the digest # it's replying to, rather than the individual message within the digest. Change the subject to reflect what ever topic you're replying to, so folks will know what the message is about.

  • 2)- When you click "reply" to a Digest message, everything in the digest will be captioned or quoted as part of reply. Be sure to highlight and delete the rest of the digest that doesn't pertain to your specific reply, so the email (if you're clicking "reply") won't contain a bunch of other messages. That'll also help keep the email as small as practical.
