October 12, 2001 Asheville Citizen-Times Bob WD4CNZ Western Carolina ARS set up a public station to collect donations for the Red Cross following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.  They raised over $2000.

Russ KF4WXD Phillps Middle School, Chapel Hill ARISS contact.  Students talked to an astronaut aboard the International Space Station with help from the Orange County Radio Amateurs.
December 4/5, 2001 WAAV Radio, Wilmington Morning Star News Bill N2COP PIO Bill Morine invited SM John Covington W4CC and PIC Gary Pearce KN4AQ for a tour of ham activity in Wilmington.  Included was an hour-long appearance on WAAV's "Waveline" call-in show, and in interview for the Morning Star which resulted in an article featuring emergency communications.

February 10, 2002 Ashville Citizen-Times Bob WD4CNZ Al Williams K4UUQ celebrates his 95th birthday.  The article includes his ham activity and callsign in the final paragraph.
