Nempco 7" Headlight Visor

Here's a picture of the Nempco 7" Harley Headlight Visor installed on the Vulcan. The Nempco visor was originally designed to install under a piece of headlight trim in the Harley's headlight housing via a flared edge on the visor...however, the Vulcan headlight assembly is somewhat different.

Below is a good side view of the Headlight visor installed. It really looks good, and I can hardly wait to get a lightbar and spots, so I can add the little visors to them! Now, if I can only figure out how to add visors to the turn signals...

Adding the Nempco visor was pretty easy. If you disassemble the headlight housing, the visor will just slide between the headlamp and the chrome trim ring. There isn't anything handy inside to attach the visor to, so I decided to solder the flared edge to the inside of the headlight's trim ring.

The headlight housing and the visor both have a layer of brass just below the chrome. Brass is easy to solder... I used the dremel tool to remove the chrome along the inside edge of the headlight's trim ring and along the edge of the mounting area on the visor, exposing the brass layer. Using electronics type rosin core solder and a large pistol-type soldering gun, I soldered the visor to the trim ring. Once reassembled, the soldered area isn't visable, and the visor is solid as a rock. This doesn't impede the replacement of the headlamp, and the result is very cool!

There are now many visors available that are much more easily installed than the way I did this back in '98. At that time, there wasn't much available that would actually fit.
