About Me
Welcome, Jacob!

Jacob Stephen Zimmerman was born at 11:37am on November 9th, 1999. He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Tuesday morning I woke up at 5:00am so that I could get a few things done before my 6:00am seminary class. After that, I was supposed to catch a day-flight to Washington DC. But Julie was awake when my alarm went off and she told me to stay close to the phone. She had been having contractions off and on throughout the night.

I brought my cell phone with me to class and--sure enough--she called me at about 6:30 to tell me that she was packing a bag. The contractions were coming regularly enough that my trip would have to wait--it was time to go to the hospital!

This was a surprise to both of us since Julie wasn't due until the 18th. Fortunately, just a couple of days ago she finished her "nesting" preparations in the baby's room:  a fresh coat of paint, a wallpaper border, new blinds, etc. Here's a picture taken right after the room was finished:

After an intense three hours of labor at the hospital during which time Julie received one epidural that didn't work and another one that worked too well (albeit too late to help much), the baby arrived.

Both mother and son did a great job and were discharged from the hospital on November 11th. Jacob's two sisters are still unsure how to react at the new addition to our family. They were excited to visit him at the hospital, but once we got there, they were much more intrigued by the snacks in the pantry cupboard than by Jacob. That's not entirely true, I guess, as they did get into quite a fight over who would get to hold him first.

Here are some thumbnails of other photos I took at the hospital (with more to come later). Click on a photo to see a larger image.
