Past Storms in North Carolina:
Hurricane Fran hit the southern coast of North Carolina on September 5th 1996, bringing flood rains and wind at the speed of 115 miles per hour and gusts up to 125 miles per hour. It took out power all over North Carolina. Over 1.7 million customers lost their electricity for 3-12 days. It left about $5 billion dollars in damage and is ranked third in most costly storms bumping Opsal down to fourth.
The Snow Storm of January 2000 left a record snow fall in Raleigh of nearly two feet. It came along directly the day after an ice storm had left us with an inch of ice. One inch of ice plus two feet of snow equals one big mess.
