TAZ

October 1997–January 7, 2002

As a kitten, Taz wanted LOTS of attention from us

He was always calling us to pick him up and love

He would attack the slippers, then get in one to nap

Winken and Taz prepared for Hurricane Floyd

Once the swing was in the garage, they jumped up in

Taz would cuddle with any kitty who would let him

No place was 'safe' from Taz's affections

B4 let Taz cuddle with him more than any cat

Taz was very patient and would move nearer and nearer very slowly-a few inches at a time

He was never close enough that he wouldn't move a little bit more

He kept trying to catch the birds and squirrels on the TV screen

Taz always managed to find an out-of-the-way place to lie down and rest (or to hide from guests)

We could always count on Taz to help us straighten up the bed

He liked to 'plop' down on his fireplace rug to get warm
There wasn't much Taz liked more than food, but...
Taz was happiest when he was surrounded by his kitty family

Here are some thoughts from Dana about Taz, written the day after we lost him:

TAZ- October 1997- Jan. 7, 2002

Taz was very little when he came to live with us. The first night he fell asleep in a blanket on my lap while we watched a movie. He cried a lot and followed Chris everywhere he went. One day when I got home, Chris was working in the garage. Taz was asleep curled up in his jacket. Taz was not very affectionate to us, but he LOVED the cats, especially Winken and B4. He would get as close as they would let him (and closer still), and he loved it when they licked him. He would stretch out slowly to get closer and closer and hope they would not notice. Sometimes he would sleep on my side of the bed until I came in, but mostly he slept in “Taz’s bucket”, a basket beside Chris’s side of the bed. He also loved to help us make the bed and would jump right into the middle when we started. Sometimes we would cover him up and let him get out later. When he was young, he loved to attack our feet and hands under the covers, but he played hard so the covers were needed for protection! Every morning, Chris would pick him up and put him on his lap and love him for a while. It was the only time he would allow it; sometimes he would growl or hiss at us if we tried to love him at other times. He also spent many mornings playing with Stevie and Sox. Taz loved being outside and got grumpy if he could not go out. He especially liked being out at night, and we called him our “vampire kitty”. When he returned home, he would sit at the “Pounce cabinet” until we rewarded him. He liked milk, but he was generous and would let the other cats drink first. He always seemed to think we needed cheering on in order for him to get his food, and he talked loudly to us until he got it. He also talked loudly if he came home while we were gone because he always expected to get in exactly when he came home. He liked to “clean up” and he would scratch to cover the milk bowls; he also would scratch to cover places where other cats had thrown up or something had been spilled. He was a fastidious guy, and he spent lots of time cleaning himself after he had been outside. He liked to “sharpen his claws” on the laundry basket, the office chair, and the vents, and he got lots of praise when he did. He was a good cat who never went to the bathroom in the house and never destroyed anything. He loved potato chips and would beg for them; he knew the sound of the Pringles can opening! Taz was a gorgeous cat. He had long, fluffy, soft hair and the biggest most beautiful tail around. The tail annoyed the other cats sometimes, but he usually held it proudly aloft. He had a “dirty” spot on his nose, and a dark spot under his chin that went all the way through his tongue and onto the roof of his mouth. He loved to flop down in front of the fireplace when the blower was running. He got very nervous when strangers or the kids were around and sometimes hid behind the washer. Taz was only with us for a little over 4 years, but we loved him greatly and will miss him always.
