Summer Time

willy with book

Well kitties, Summer's here, and although I enjoy my summertime activities, I tend to get very cranky when I get too hot! My cheap humans won't break down and turn on the air conditioning until the thermometer hits 90 ! They'll insist there's a "breeze", and crank up those stupid fans! Yuk! I just can't stand all that air blowing on me! I've even had to abandon their bed at night, because they insist on having those fans on !

And unlike my humans, I just don't get a kick out of jumping into a cold pool of water to cool off! So how does a cat beat the heat ?

Well, first of all, don't exert yourself too much ! Sleep all day, and party at night, and into the early morning hours, when it's cooler. And you've gotta let your humans know when you're HOT! I like to lay around looking all listless and grumpy. When they start that "What's wrong, pumpkin ?" bologna, I open one eye and give 'em a feeble "mew". Or I collapse at their feet, belly up, and just lay there ! When they realize I'm about to expire from heat exhaustion, they'll turn on that darn air conditioner!

But I don't understand why they have to shut all the doors and windows! I like to lounge on my window sills, and hear , as well as see what's going on! And when I do venture out on my early morning jaunts (if Stubby and Bubby aren't lurking around), I must have a door open in case I need to BOLT into the house at a moment's notice! My meowmie understands this, and always leaves the door cracked for me. But Dad had to learn the hard way!

I was lounging out on the porch with the humans the other day, when Bubby caught me offguard ! I'm not stupid! I tried to zip into the house, but the door was shut tight! I panicked, and shot off into the woods with Bubby in hot pursuit! Dad had to ward him off, getting wounded in the process, while Mom opened the door so I could make my escape back into the house ! Whew! That was a close one! But Dad knows better now ! He used to say "If you can't hang with the big cats stay on the porch!" Well, I do stay on the porch! It's not my fault these bullies won't leave me alone ! Humans! Sheesh!
