Water
Our finished prized beer is approximately 90% water. Water is simple. It has 3 atoms-2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen. Take the water straight from your well or municipal water supply and brew. Don't we wish it was that simple.
Water treatment by boiling, aeration, filtering, PH adjustment, and salt additions to match the style of beer we are brewing should be our first brewing consideration. Based upon the geological structure of the earth's surface near you, water is constantly being altered and naturally filtered and adjusted. You, the brewer, must now take this vital component of the brewing ingredients and reformat to allow you to brew the best beer ever consumed. But sadly, this is not what happens with the vast majority of brewers.
We will attempt to provide a comprehensive view of water and its effect on the beer that you brew and share with your friends. We will also offer a reading reference list to increase your knowledge of this simple, yet complex, component of beer.
